Yucatan

Yucatan

Located in southeastern Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula, this state is renowned for its beautiful beaches, ancestral Mayan ruins and rich cultural heritage. Mérida, its capital, is the largest city in the state of Yucatan, with a population of over 1.5 million.

The remains of Mayan civilization can be found throughout the region in the form of ruins and archaeological sites such as Chichen Itzá, the seventh wonder of the modern world, Uxmal and Dzibilchaltun.

The colonial presence can also be seen everywhere in the architecture of towns, villages and haciendas. This mix of pre-Columbian and colonial influences gives the region a rich culture and a genuine identity.

Traditional Yucatecan cuisine includes dishes such as Cochinita Pibil (marinated pork cooked underground), Sopa de Lima (Yucatecan lime soup), and Marquesitas (Mayan crepes).

Cenotes, archaeological sites, colonial towns, the Yucatan offers a wide range of places and activities to discover.

The Yucatan Peninsula is made up of three states: Campeche, Yucatan and Quitana-Roo. Its Caribbean coast, also known as the Rivera Maya, is home to some of Mexico's most beautiful beaches, with crystal-clear water and white sand. Its most popular tourist destinations are Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

Last but not least, the Yucatan is world-famous for its cenotes, sacred sites of the Mayans in the form of rock pools. This tropical region, with its lush vegetation, exotic animals and colorful landscapes, will take your breath away.
